New Year Fish Report: San Diego Bay

Happy New Years from Captain Clowers Charters!

The New Year has provided epic fishing on San Diego Bay for all of my clients – big tides and lots of biting fish. Bass, halibut, bonefish, corvina, leopard sharks, bat rays, shovel nose and smoothhounds are all biting.

Bay bass are coming on Berkley Gulp 3″ shrimp on 1/2 oz lead heads (all colors) as well as 3″ swimbaits in brown and green colors – fishing those baits on 10 lb braid with a 15 lb top shot.

Bonefish are being caught on ghost shrimp rigged on either drop shots or carolina rigs with 1/4 – 1/2 oz weights and 6 lb leaders.

Corvina are biting during grey light or at night on topwater lures. It’s pretty insane when you’re tossing a Spook or Sammy around the bay, just like on a local lake, and a corvina or big halibut smashes it!

The bay sharks are all coming on cut baits rigged on a dropper loop with 40 pound line.

I can’t say enough good things about San Diego Bay…this place continues to put big smiles on my clients’ faces – from little kids to grown adults. It’s a blast when its biting full speed.

The tide is important though, it doesn’t matter what time of day it is, if the tide is moving the fish are biting.

It looks like we have some good weather this week so its time to go fishing – whether its the bay or offshore, Captain Clowers can put you and your family on the fish!

Tight lines, and see you on the water.
